The article considers the problem of the formation of the idea of giftedness and talent in Ukrainian
philosophy during the Renaissance and Reformation. It is shown that the spread of ideas about a creative,
active person was facilitated by the socio-economic progress that began in Ukraine during this period and
conditioned the development of national consciousness, education and science. It is emphasized that the
sources of the formation of ideas about a creative personality should be sought in the time when the process of
the cultural revolution began to unfold on the territory of the ancient Ukrainian state. For the formation of the
philosophical thought of Kyivan Rus, its appeal to Hellenic and Byzantine worldview values and intellectual
ideas was of great importance. It is noted that a characteristic feature of Kyivan Rus’ philosophical thought is
the non-perception of the logical-discursive way of thinking characteristic of Western European scholasticism.
The affirmation of the principles of goodness, mercy and peace in Kyivan Rus’ society actualizes the problem
of recognizing the originality of gifted and talented individuals as leaders of cultural progress. It is shown
that the idea of giftedness and talent are consonant with the doctrine of apophatism, which asserts the idea of
the possibility of knowledge through mystical unity with divine forces. It is substantiated that the development
of philosophical thought in Ukraine during the Renaissance is based on the ideology of humanism, due to
which the center of “gravity” from ideas about the world is transferred to the study of man, his potentialities,
among which giftedness and talent occupy one of the most important places. It is shown that domestic thinkers,
relying on the achievements of their predecessors, develop the ideas of humanistic anthropocentrism with its
interpretation of man as the highest value, occupying an intermediate position between the sphere of spirit and
matter, belonging to two worlds – earthly and heavenly
