In Davos, a request was made to the modern person as a competitive professional, which in turn formed a number of demands for the education system. In response to this demand, the educational space began to іntensively implement case-study as one of the technology-driven solutions, oriented towards the independent individual and group activities of learners in the process of forming professional knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The purpose of the article is to define the essence of case-study as a technology for professionally
oriented education of learners, which has its strong and weak positions.
It is noted that case-study stimulates the application of critical thinking skills and problem-solving under limited time and provides valuable experience, which promotes activity when included in a learning situation, helps to systematise knowledge, and integrates learning into real life. The use of case-study is a form of updating and testing knowledge, developing effectiveness of distinguishing important from trivial, nurturing a sense of responsibility in the learning process, motivating for critical and evaluated activity when it's time to act in a real situation.
Case studies are the best way to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and are therefore a variation of problem-based learning. The strong points of case studies are practical orientation, interactive format, knowledge development rather than consumption, improvement of soft skills, and integration of different teaching methods. Weak points are related to the technology itself, as there is no perfect technology in the world, and the personality of the teacher who uses the technology. It is concluded that the use of case studies as an educational technology opens up a wide space for learners to develop independence, practical-oriented thinking, ability to analyse information, formulate and solve problems, as well as develop life-important competencies and orientation towards the relevance of creativity and innovation.
