Abstract

The article examines the problem of giftedness in Ukrainian philosophy during the Baroque era – the Ukrainian Renaissance of the 16th–17th Centuries. It is shown that the development of philosophical thought in Ukraine during this period took place on the basis of the ideology of Western European and Christian humanism, which organically merged into philosophy as its most important part and in which new versatile demands of the human personality were reflected. It is noted that the centers of the development of humanism in Ukraine were Orthodox brotherhoods, in which there were schools that can be considered universities “sui generis”. The article emphasizes that contemporaries put new meaning into the concept of “humanism”, which was widespread in Ukraine during this period. Its most complex component is the Christian-Orthodox component. In this context, the author notes, it is necessary to take into account that in connection with the reorientation of philosophical thought from the knowledge of God to the knowledge of man and the recognition of his intrinsic value, its dimension is realized in the phenomena of giftedness, abilities and talents. It is emphasized that Ukrainian thinkers develop the ideas of humanism from the interpretation of man as the highest value, taking into account the potential possibilities of creative comprehension of reality. It is shown that in this regard the deep meaning of giftedness is not to merge with the abstract universality of the “kingdom of ideas”, but to realize the mystery of one’s soul through creativity. On this basis, the communicative unity of educated, talented people is formed with the aim of their spiritual understanding. However, the article emphasizes that for this it is necessary to focus on self-knowledge, which means knowledge of one’s soul, which is like a tuning fork by which a person’s talents and abilities are determined. It is proved that this trend has found a continuation in the work of thinkers and scientists of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
