This article explores the essence of modern education in the context of the dynamic development of information and digital technologies. It emphasizes that, unlike the industrial era, today’s priorities have shifted toward data exchange, intellectual and creative activity, and knowledge. At the same time, a range of complex challenges and risks emerges, which heightens the responsibility of education for the preservation and productive development of both society and the individual.
The article underscores that solving today’s pressing issues is possible through the modernization of educational practices, which should be based on the four “Cs”: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. It points out that in order to prepare students to be competitive, goal-oriented, and capable of making independent decisions, it is necessary to cultivate competencies that correspond to the challenges and unpredictable events caused by geopolitical and geoeconomic contradictions.
The article argues that general education, aimed at fostering a creative, professional, and knowledgeable individual, must take into account the ongoing deviations that disrupt the anticipated harmonization of socio-economic and cultural processes. To achieve success and address fundamental life-meaning questions, individuals must learn how to be modern – this implies uniqueness, originality, and autonomy.
A significant role in developing these qualities is played by “useful” knowledge, which has driven intellectual transformation and tremendous advancements in science and technology, paving the way for the prosperity and well-being of countries that have embraced this path. The article highlights that while information and digital technologies have expanded human capabilities, they have not led to complete happiness and harmony. Consequently, the role and importance of education continue to grow, becoming ever more crucial for the further progress of both society and the individual.
