The article presents the results of a study of the diagnostic capabilities of B. Dodonov’s diagnostic
technique of emotional orientation to identify adolescents with signs of giftedness. The study was conducted in
two stages, on two samples (N = 433 and N = 269). According to the results of the first stage at the questionnaire
of B. Dodonov, based on factor analysis, a “scale of creativity” was identified, including 17 emotions (feelings,
experiences, states), which reflects the high creative potential of the individual. The reliability test (according
to the α-Chronbach criterion) showed a high consistency of the scale items (0,861). The predictive validity of
the scale was also tested on the first sample. The results showed that its total indicator (according to Student’s
t-test) is significantly higher among schoolchildren who successfully participate in the competition of the Minor
Academy of Sciences of Ukraine than among their peers who never participate in research and creative projects.
Verification of the construct convergent validity of the scale was carried out at the second stage of the study.
The results showed a positive correlation of the “creativity scale of Dodonov” with the creativity indicators
according to the F. Williams’ test, with the choice of creative professions and creative values according to the
J. Holland test, with the “intellectual activity” construct of the “Big Five Locator”. All these results showed
that the “scale of creativity”, dedicated by us in the B. Dodonov test, can be successfully used to identify gifted
children as an additional (non-main) diagnostic method.
